
Easy Ways To Provide Job Descriptions When Outsourcing Tasks
Once I provide a job specification copy to an out tasker, I sometimes use a video to go with it. I also use a pen and paper and mocked up things I wanted to have happen from a software flow chart then used the iSight camera in the Mac. I held the note up to the screen, took a photograph of my notepad and gave it to my staff. Then I just exposed the look in my computer screen after which screen captured the notepad with my instructions on the audio. It absolutely was my mouse moving forward the screen going through, talking through my really bad sketch. It absolutely was really basic. That’s the detail of the items you have to do when outsourcing tasks to your staff today.
So I did those little mock ups that I cut out of Word, did another little screen capture video of the original sales page that I wanted to have changed and then sent this email. ‘Basically it is a redesign of owntheg.com.au sales letter, you’ll see a bunch of videos on the blog that I want to incorporate and then check out the other videos I talk about.’ This is basically the brief that I gave, the name of the videos and the screen shots. I got back an amazing full sales letter for about $200.
I also asked the same staff to work on another sales page for the Own the G thing recently where I sold for Father’s Day some unframed carpet only for $90 that I bought from Melbourne Cricket Club. I did just a little four day using the marketing of Frank Kern tagged as style cash machine launch. I just told him that I have mocked up a sales letter in Word and all he needs is to make it look pretty.
Just what I did on the other task, I did some effort to copy and paste the details of the web page of an SEO services website I want him to create. I did my version of an onsite call out box and the add to cart button. Then I did a little screen capture on the material for him to review and accomplish. He turned out that mocked up copy beautifully for only $150.
He did make one slight tweak to it, rather than go back and forth for an hour and a half because I gave him a pretty ugly, yet detailed brief. It all comes back to how close you can get to giving the brief.
The work was done by a guy I send regular work to. Keep that in mind when you first work with someone, because you may need to give more detailed briefs. But I now know where this guy is at and I pitch the work to where I am at with him.
I make sure that I prepare everything when outsourcing these tasks. For example, there was a time I included an audio brief with the video that I took of the hand written notepad. I provided an introduction to the project, a link to it and the step by step procedure on how to complete the task. I provided references and tweaked style links I want to include as well as links to the preferred buttons. I gave him some pretty detailed brief of just what I needed to have done in this particular task.
He came back with precisely what I desired to see the first time. Yes it’s because I’ve used this person several times but it’s a fairly detailed brief in terms of what I was longing to see in this task.
A few things I got as a result of that actually bad hand sketch piece of paper drawing, plus the email I got back seven one page web templates all in PSD for approximately $200. Again $10,000 to have an eight page website or $200 after a decent brief as well as the design all laid out prepared to be cut up from a developer. I got the PSD, images i just gave to some developer to cut up for a site for $200 also. So I need to shell out $400 for me to get a five page website. I gave some pretty detailed briefs and got a great result out of it.
That’s how I prepare a job spec for anyone when it comes to outsourcing tasks in my SEO company. When I’m about to record a video, I’ll get a notepad like that. You just do bullet points just so you know what it is that you’re going to go through. I’ll set up my screen capture software, I’ll have my notepad just out of shot because you can define the area you’re going to be screen capturing on your computer. So you have that out of shot. You follow through your bullet points just to make sure that you hit on everything and then I’ll send them, here’s a link to the video, P.S here are the notes from the video.
